Swift

Jonathan Swift, Dean of St Patricks, was a much-loved figure in eighteenth century Ireland, and a friend of Doctor Sheridan, grandfather of the famous playwright. Both men are depicted in the 'Ascendancy' chapter of Rutherfurd's second Irish book, where there is also some surprising information about Swift's use of Irish words in GULLIVER'S TRAVELS.

Did You Know?
March is the month of the Spring Equinox when, in every country on Earth, the sun rises due East. Traditionally, most Christian churches are oriented on that due East line. But not all. Variations include churches that were oriented towards the sunrise as it would appear on the day of the year when they were founded, or on the saints day of the saint to whom the church was dedicated. You could test your local church with a compass.
