Brian Boru

Brian, son of Kennedy, known as Boruma or Boru, ancestor of the family of O'Brien, was the great Irish king of the Dal Cais dynasty who at the end of the tenth century took the High Kingship of Ireland, and nearly managed to unite the whole island into a lasting kingdom. The story of Brian, his subtle politics, broad vision, and the complex relationship with the Viking Norsemen both in Ireland and across their wide empire on the northern seas, is recounted in the 'Brian Boru' chapter of the first book of Rutherfurd's Irish saga.
