Book Of Kells

This great treasure of the medieval Irish Church is the greatest of many illuminated books. In the 'Brian Boru' chapter of Rutherfurd's first Irish book, Osgar the monk visits the monastery of Kells to study the magnificent Gospel Book. Back at his own monastery of Glendalough, he illustrates a similar book, and we learn something of the processes involved and the significance of Irish calligraphy and illumination.
